GeoPura launched on Clean Air Day in 2019 and has been providing zero-emission power across a range of applications ever since, improving air quality and reducing pollution to benefit people and the planet.

Over that time we have grown from an innovative startup, employing a handful of people, to a multi-million pound business trusted by some of the biggest names in the UK to power their critical projects including HS2, Balfour Beatty and the BBC. Supported by industry leading investors and strategic partners on the next phase of our journey, GeoPura continues to grow, deploying an expanding fleet of hydrogen powered generators, manufactured in the UK in collaboration with Siemens Energy, replacing high polluting diesel biofuel, and HVO powered alternatives.

Meanwhile, the urgency to switch to cleaner power alternatives continues to mount. Every year, air pollution causes up to 36,000 deaths in the UK.  The World Health Organisation and the UK Government recognise that air pollution is the largest environmental health risk we face today.

The focus for this year’s Clean Air Day is to reduce air pollution at an individual level but also as part of a global shift to meet net-zero targets. Air pollution is an urgent sustainability challenge for businesses and GeoPura offers a proven solution to help address this.

Working towards improving air quality is beneficial for us in many ways: it not only benefits our physical health and the environment but can also protect our mental and brain health. The physical health impacts of air pollution – such as asthma, heart disease and cancers – have been recognised for decades. More recently, researchers are beginning to understand how air pollution can affect the brain and the mind. Being exposed to air pollution is linked conditions such as depression, anxiety and dementia.

The potential liability risks to companies and employers regarding exposure to diesel generator emissions should also be considered. Failing to address these risks can lead to legal, financial, and reputational consequences. By understanding these liabilities and taking proactive measures to transition to cleaner alternatives, monitor emissions, and educate employees, companies can demonstrate their commitment to the well-being of their staff and the public. Embracing sustainable practices not only mitigates risks but also paves the way for a healthier and more responsible future.

Utilising its HPU technology and hydrogen as a fuel, GeoPura is enabling companies to reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality, improving the health and well-being of workers on-site and minimising the impact on surrounding communities and the wider environment.

This Clean Air Day, we can all take simple steps to build a clean air future together – to protect our mental, physical and planet’s health. If you’re looking for clean, renewable energy solutions, our team can help you ditch fossil fuels for good.
