Principal Mechanical Engineer

Department: Renewable Fuel Production

Location: Hybrid/Newark

Starting timeframe: Immediate

GeoPura’s mission is to decarbonise global economies using zero-emission fuels and financially sustainable, innovative technologies to end our reliance on fossil fuels. At GeoPura we understand the scale of the challenge, we are on a journey towards net-zero and how we get there is equally as important as the destination. As a business, we are: Innovative, Collaborative, Agile, Sustainable, Protective

GeoPura’s initial focus has been off-grid, temporary and back-up power, essentially diesel generator displacement, using low-carbon hydrogen via GeoPura’s proprietary Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU). The HPUs are manufactured to a GeoPura design by our partner Siemens Energy at their Newcastle facility, and employs an industrial fuel cell, UPS and batteries to deliver critical, zero-emission “energy as a service” to our customers across a wide range of use-cases from construction to film and TV production, to outdoor events. Existing clients include Netflix, BBC, HS2, Balfour Beatty and National Grid.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer role is focused on hydrogen fuel production and is based out of GeoPura’s High Marnham site near Newark-on-Trent. There are multiple sites, each at different phases including active production, early phase build, FEED & concept feasibility. There will therefore be travel requirements to proposed or active production sites plus key suppliers throughout the UK and Europe. Hybrid working patterns can be accommodated although it should be noted that to effectively deliver this ambitious program, the candidate would be expected to be on site at the High Marnham centre of operations at minimum of 2 to 3 days a week.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Mechanical design responsibility for multiple green electrolytic hydrogen projects
  • Ensure compliance to relevant regulations codes & standards
  • Fully familiar with application of Atex & PED Regulations
  • Preparation of Process Flow Diagrams
  • Production of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) for the production sites (ISO 10628 or ISO 15519)
  • Determine suitable design standards for the lines and vessels.
  • Ensure vessel supplier has specifications for full assessment for PED compliance.
  • Provide sizing calculations and report for pipe, its supports, welds, or jointing and branch fitting.
  • Flexibility analysis to ASME B31.3:2002.
  • Determine the instrumentation, Pressure Safety Valves (PSV), isolation valves, and miscellaneous items (non-return valves, burst disks etc) requirements. Provide PSV and vent line sizing calculations.
  • Development of process controls and instrumentation requirements
  • Supporting Hazid, Hazop, qra, lopa studies
