GeoPura partnered with Latitude Festival 2024, to introduce an innovative solution to power the event more sustainably. This year, GeoPura’s Hydrogen Power Units (HPUs) replaced HVO biofuel generators, providing zero-emission electricity to part of the festival’s village area including medical/welfare, merchandise stand, VIP camping, and the festival’s recycling and waste sorting hub.

Improvements to make
Challenges
- Short-term deployment for an event.
- Sustainable alternative to generators needed.
- Critical power supply needed for welfare facilities and VIP camping
How GeoPura helped
Solutions
- Zero Emissions: Unlike diesel generators, HPUs emit no pollutants.
- Reduced Noise: Hydrogen generators are quieter than diesel equivalents.
- Versatility: HPUs can provide heating, hot water, and fast EV charging, supporting a wide range of festival needs
About the Project
GeoPura began supporting the Latitude Festival in the months leading up to the event, working closely with the production team from April to assess power requirements for key areas. In May, engineers conducted a detailed site visit to determine the best placement for the Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU) and establish logistics. By June, GeoPura had finalized the power strategy, confirming energy needs for welfare, medical, and VIP zones. In mid-July, the HPU was delivered and set up on-site, ensuring it was ready before the festival build began. During the build week, the unit was integrated into Latitude’s infrastructure, providing clean power to essential areas. In the days before the festival opened, engineers carried out thorough testing and commissioning to ensure everything ran smoothly. When Latitude opened on July 25, the HPU delivered reliable, silent power across designated zones.
GeoPura’s team remained on-site throughout the event, monitoring performance and providing real-time support as needed. After the festival, GeoPura collaborated with Latitude’s team to gather data on emissions saved and environmental benefits. By August, a detailed report was produced, highlighting the significant carbon reduction achieved. In September, GeoPura shared insights from the project at industry events, demonstrating the potential of hydrogen power in live event environments. The partnership continues, with GeoPura committed to supporting Latitude’s sustainability goals for future festivals.

“Powering an event like Latitude Festival sustainably is a big focus for us and requires reliable, renewable energy sources. Our partnership with GeoPura and the integration of their Hydrogen Power Units is a fantastic step forward by exploring alternative power solutions.”
“By trialling hydrogen power at this year’s
festival, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also protecting the local environment and paving the way for more sustainable events in the future. As
set out in our Green Nation Sustainability Charter we have a responsibility to preserve the live music experience for generations to come and the opportunity to use our platform to inspire global environmental action.”
