Isle of Wight Festival 2024
The Isle of Wight Festival 2024 is setting a new benchmark in sustainability by integrating hydrogen-powered generators into its power infrastructure. GeoPura’s HPUs, hydrogen powered generators, replaced traditional diesel generators providing power to crew and artist catering and part of the guest village providing zero-emission electricity from hydrogen for the first time at the festival. This bold initiative is part of the festival’s commitment to becoming the most sustainable in the country. By introducing hydrogen power, the festival is making a significant leap towards reducing its carbon footprint and setting an example for other events

Improvements to make
Challenges
- Short-term deployment for an event.
- Sustainable alternative to diesel generators needed.
- Critical power supply needed for welfare facilities and EV charging.
How GeoPura helped
Solutions
- Zero Emissions: Unlike diesel generators, HPUs emit no pollutants.
- Reduced Noise: Hydrogen generators are quieter than diesel equivalents.
- Versatility: HPUs can provide heating, hot water, and fast EV charging, supporting a wide range of festival needs.
About the Project
GeoPura played a key role in supporting the Isle of Wight Festival by delivering clean hydrogen power to essential areas of the event. Planning began several months ahead, with GeoPura working closely with the festival’s production team to assess power requirements and identify the most effective deployment strategy. In the lead-up to the event, engineers conducted a site visit to map out optimal HPU placement and coordinate logistics. As the festival approached, GeoPura finalised the power plan to support welfare facilities, catering zones, and operational areas. The HPU was delivered to site during the build phase, with engineers integrating it seamlessly into the festival’s infrastructure. Ahead of opening, the system underwent thorough testing to ensure reliable power delivery.
Throughout the festival, GeoPura’s team remained on-site to monitor performance and provide technical support as needed. The HPU successfully powered key areas with zero emissions, improving air quality and reducing noise compared to traditional diesel generators. After the event, GeoPura collaborated with the Isle of Wight Festival team to gather sustainability data, demonstrating the carbon savings achieved. The results were shared in post-event reporting, reinforcing the environmental benefits of hydrogen power. GeoPura continues to support major events like Isle of Wight, helping organisers transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions.
