UPS Engineer

GeoPura designs and implements decarbonised energy services using zero-emission fuels.  Through the provision of innovative technology and commercial solutions, we aim to enable the decarbonisation of our global economy.  GeoPura has a particular interest in developing fuel cell power generation products, low-carbon hydrogen production, and hydrogen carrier technologies and methods.

At the heart of GeoPura’s offering today is our Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU), which provides zero-emission electricity to our off-grid, temporary and supplementary power customers. We have been providing such power to a wide range of industries for several years now, making GeoPura a leader in the scale-up and commercial deployment of hydrogen technology for significant energy-systems decarbonisation.  Current clients of GeoPura include Netflix, BBC, HS2 and Balfour Beatty, as well as festivals such as Latitude and sporting events such as the Open.

As a UPS Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of our UPS systems, which are within our Hydrogen Power Units. You’ll service, maintain, calibrate, fault find and repair UPSs across the UK (and internationally) both on customer sites and at our own facilities (Newcastle, High Marnham), as well as work with our R&D team to develop and implement engineering changes for improved performance and reliability of the system.  A mix of site and office work will be required.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct service, maintenance, testing and calibration activities on our UPSs, which are integrated in our HPU fleet – both on customer and internal premises
  • Fault diagnosis, testing and repairs on UPSs, batteries, switchgear, control systems and associated critical electrical / mechanical equipment
  • Carry out load bank testing, site surveys, investigations and inspections of UPS, batteries, switchgear, control systems, generators and associated electrical / mechanical equipment
  • Ability to write maintenance reports
  • Clear understanding of safe working practices and ensure our companies’ Health & Safety policies are upheld
  • Can demonstrate technical excellence, exceptional attention to detail and pride in quality of work
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Frequent travel to sites in the UK &Worldwide needed
  • Flexible working, as some repairs may be required out of core office hours
  • Ability to self-define priorities, whilst managing both office and onsite tasks

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Significant experience working on UPS systems
  • Must be a qualified Electrician or Degree qualified electrical engineer/related subject
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent technical knowledge of UPS systems
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical fault finding
  • Excellent communication and fault-finding skills
  • ECS Gold Card (desirable)
  • You must hold a valid, full UK driving licence
