Principal Electrical Engineer

Location: Remote/Hybrid with expected travel to High Marnham

Timescales: Immediate

GeoPura designs and implements decarbonised energy services using zero emission fuels.  Through the provision of innovative technology and commercial solutions, we aim to enable the decarbonisation of our global economy.  GeoPura has a particular interest in developing fuel cell power generation products, low-carbon hydrogen production, and hydrogen carrier technologies and methods.

At the heart of GeoPura’s offering today is our Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU), which provides zero-emission electricity to our off-grid, temporary and supplementary power customers. We have been providing such power to a wide range of industries for several years now, making GeoPura a leader in the scale-up and commercial deployment of hydrogen technology for significant energy-systems decarbonisation.  Current clients of GeoPura include Netflix, BBC, HS2 and Balfour Beatty, as well as festivals such as Latitude and sporting events such as the Open.

GeoPura has also developed significant hydrogen production capabilities, to fuel the Hydrogen Power Units.  The HPUs require a reliable supply of cost-effective, high-purity, low-carbon hydrogen to both deliver the power our customers need, and to realise the emissions reductions that motivate their use of our services.  With several production facilities currently in operation, GeoPura is already one of the leading producers of low-carbon hydrogen in the UK.  As one of the successful applicants to the Government’s first hydrogen allocation round (HAR1) competition, GeoPura is investing significantly to increase output at our facility in High Marnham.  At 14MWe, this will become the largest electrolytic hydrogen facility in the UK when it comes online in 2025.

Working in partnership with Siemens Energy to provide this delivery of renewable, zero-emission energy, GeoPura is growing at a significant pace. We seek a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team and strengthen our engineering capabilities across our hydrogen production and customer power generation (HPU) activities.  You’ll join an innovative and rapidly growing company, working to realise significant commercial decarbonisation at scale using zero emission fuels.

  • Develop and Review design packages for electrical systems and equipment (e.g. Power & Distribution Transformers, generators, high voltage/ low voltage switchgear / Motor Control Centre (MCC), distribution networks, control equipment, power outlets etc.) including drawings, detail scope of work, calculations, Bill of Material / Quantity and preliminary cost estimates.
  • Ensure that the electrical systems and main plant equipment used are safe, reliable, and cost-effective and that they conform to clients’ specifications and applicable electrical codes and standards.
  • Compile technical files to support certification against appropriate directives.
  • Liaise with clients and be able to provide technical solutions and specific contract requirements.
  • Carry out detailed site surveys for electrical equipment and installations.
  • Liaise with vendors and evaluate technical aspects of vendor quotations and make recommendations.
  • Review and respond to technical and site queries.
  • Provide technical assurance for electrical discipline deliverables for projects.

  • Report progress to project team/engineering manager and advise of any scope changes to capture any Engineering Change Notices as and when required.
  • Review contractor Change Notices to ensure the scope is required and complies with the project codes and standards and is within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Provide cost estimate support to Projects for Electrical, Instrumentation and Control systems.
  • Involve and participate in document standardization, good practices of engineering design and development tools.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Team during all projects to ensure integrity in terms of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) considerations.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for zero-emission / renewable energy
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical or electrical/electronic engineering, preferably Chartered with IET/IEEE (required standard: 1st class degree (desirable), PhD, or equivalent).
