GeoPura sits at the forefront in the development of the production and use of hydrogen as a fuel for off grid power and beyond. Codes of practice and standards (C+S) form an integral part of keeping the industry safe. However, in any rapidly developing field such as the widespread use of hydrogen as a fuel, C+S that are directly applicable can be lacking due to the time it takes for their development and approval. There are some areas for which C+S from related industries can be applied and others where these are lacking, and the industry must justify safe methods and practices by other means. To enable this, a broad knowledge of existing C+S must be coupled with knowledge of the fundamentals in play to enable development to progress safely.
An exciting role at GeoPura has emerged in this space for a candidate who is solutions-focused. As a forerunner in the industry, you will be able to find defensible solutions and your methods and reporting must stand up to the scrutiny of colleagues, customers and regulators. You will be able to draw from C+S, academia and fundamentals and be able to confidently discuss your process. You will have a broad understanding of engineering principles which will allow you to find optimal solutions where there are competing constraints.
The ideal candidate will recognise, as GeoPura do, that this is role where continuous self-directed learning and problem-solving are paramount. The desire to continuously evolve, progress understanding, and problem-solve is essential. Depending on experience, the candidate may be offered the opportunity to study at the University of Ulster Hydrogen Safety PgCertificate/PgDiploma/MSc and obtain relevant CompEx certification.
Responsibilities
Your role will be varied and depend on your strengths and experience. Over time it will develop to include involvement in
- Hazardous Area Classification
- Design of site layouts including quantifying separation distances
- Design of equipment including suitable ventilation and safety systems
- Oversee ATEX conformance of equipment and installations
- Oversee CE marking of ATEX equipment
Requirements
To make a success of this role the candidate must have the ability to research unknown topics by going back to first principles, legislation, standards and academic research. Skills and experience which will aid this include:
- Strong scientific background. For example MSc in Process Safety, Chemistry/Physics or Mechanical/Chemical Engineering
- Excellent written communication developed in industry or university
Desirables
- Experience of ATEX/hydrogen safety related work/topics. This will ideally be through professional experience but may be through a university course or project.
- Process Safety MSc or similar
- Proficient in use of CAD software such as Inventor.
- Knowledge of engineering challenges specific to hydrogen
- Knowledge of ATEX directives, DSEAR, EPS regs
- Knowledge of and experience applying the IEC 60079 series of standards
- CompEx 1-4, CompEx12, CompEx 14.
- Knowledge of and experience applying BCGA codes and guidance
What we will give you in return:
- A competitive salary
- Annual Bonus Scheme
- Up to 8% matched pension contribution
- 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays (holiday entitlement also raises 1 day per year of service, capped at 30 days)
- Enhanced sick pay
- Enhanced family leave pay
- A career within a rapidly growing company
- Private healthcare and dental cover
- Death in Service Benefit at 4x base salary
- Employee Assistance Programme and Mental Health Advantage
- Bike2Work Scheme
- Exposure to exciting projects within film, TV and other sectors working to decarbonise their operations
